Last weekend, Team Mullin traveled to Hochatown, OK for our annual staff retreat. The purpose for the retreat was to brainstorm ideas on how we can provide the best constituent experience. I'm happy to announce that it was a great success and we're excited to try some new ideas so that we can better serve YOU!
As the proud parents of six children, all of whom are or have been educated by our public schools, Oklahomans’ education is a major priority for me and my wife, Christie. I had the privilege to speak to Union High School's U.S. Government class and walk them through my day and responsibilities as I serve them. I shared with them how I got my start in public service to fight government overreach, the difference between the House and Senate, and my average day of serving Oklahoma. We also discussed dealing with those of opposing views, my work with Tribal communities, and advice on getting involved in our political system. Thanks to Union for having me!
On Wednesday, Team Mullin had the privilege of attending a special conference yesterday examining the history of American Indian Self-Determination put on through the Nixon Foundation at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City. Specifically, this event celebrated the passage of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act enacted in 1975. As an Oklahoman and a member of Cherokee Nation, the history and sovereignty of Tribal communities is incredibly important to my team and my family. In the Senate, I’ll never stop fighting to ensure our federal obligations to Indian Country are met.
I want Oklahomans to know that I am still closely monitoring the arrest of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi. As we continue to learn more details, rest assured that your security is of the utmost importance to me. I want to remind everyone not to judge all Afghans in Oklahoma by the actions of one. I've worked alongside Afghan nationals who have saved countless American lives. Please see my recent interview on Fox & Friends for an update.
