Since 2019, the Division of Health Care Finance (DHCF) Medicaid Training team has had the privilege of participating in Professional Development sessions led by Wichita State University’s Community Engagement Institute (WSU/CEI). These sessions have been both inspiring and instrumental in enhancing our skills and awareness. We’re excited to announce that WSU/CEI is offering their Fall 2024 Rising to the Challenge webinar series, and we encourage you to take part!

Looking for an opportunity to expand your knowledge of Kansas Medicaid and KanCare? Look no further than the upcoming Medicaid training courses the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Division of Health Care Finance, (KDHE-DHCF) offers!
The KDHE/DHCF Medicaid Training team has scheduled ten training courses in October for KDHE-DHCF employees to attend. These courses are conducted virtually via Zoom with the exception of one being offered as Computer Based Training (CBT).
Each course focuses on foundational topics related to Medicaid in Kansas. Attending these trainings will help you excel in your job and provide better service to those we serve.

Kansas Medicaid Grievance, Appeals, and State Fair Hearings

1. The process of initiating a Grievance, Appeal or State Fair Hearing request.
2. The basic requirements and timelines for requests.
3. The responsibilities of the MCOs, the State of Kansas, providers and members related to requests.
4. Changes implemented in 2018 that impacted a member’s course of action. Including the new requirement to initiate an appeal.

Medicaid Fraud
Instructors: Kiel Kearney, Special Agent with the Inspector Generals Office
1. Participants will understand the history of the Medicaid Inspector General’s office, its statutory basis for existing, and its duties.
2. Participants will understand what Medicaid fraud is and how to identify it.
3. Participants will understand how Medicaid fraud audits are developed.
4. Participants will review several case studies, which include examples of Medicaid fraud in Caretaker Medical and PD Waiver/Medically Needy.

What is the Community Support Waiver?
The Community Support Waiver (CSW) is a new Medicaid waiver program that will assist Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who do not need continuous, 24hour support. The CSW will expand community care choices and supplement natural supports to make it easier for anyone to live independently at home.
