Friend --
Winning the war does not necessarily mean winning the peace. The
battle to control the "rules" of a post-war system is as intense in
many ways as the wars that accompany the demise of the previous
system. As we see the inevitable collapse of the "neo-liberal system"
controlled from the West, we will discuss in tonight's symposium the
history and battles involved in establishing the post-WWII "Bretton
Woods System." What went right, and what went wrong?
We have much to say about this process of the Bretton Woods -- old
and potentially new. Lyndon LaRouche warned at the time of the take
down of the original Bretton Woods System in 1971, when the dollar was
taken off the gold reserve system and a "floating currency rate"
system was established, that such a system would lead to a
reemergence of fascism and war. LaRouche moved then to create a new,
just system presenting his call for an "International Development
Bank" in 1974. LaRouche called his 2000 presidential campaign "The
Committee for a New Bretton Woods."
In 2022, Helga Zepp-LaRouche issued a petition for international
support for a New Bretton Woods System. She wrote at that time:
"There is a growing concern about World
War III and, while people are against war, they are not looking at the
cause. It is the collapse globally of the neo-liberal system which is
responsible for the war drive coming from the G7 and NATO."
While ridiculing the dog-and-pony show of their summits, she
pointed to the serious discussion at the BRICS-Plus summit as an
example of the potential to achieve a global bankruptcy
reorganization. As to why connect her petition with Bretton Woods, she
said that it represented a precedent for such a global agreement and
that, although the hijacking of FDR’s original proposal prevented the
full decolonization he intended, the BRICS-Plus have now put that back
on the agenda. By contrast, "The G7 and NATO are launching a global
operation which does not address any of the immediate threats facing
mankind. Our proposal does," she said.
The BRICS summit this year, which will conclude on October 24, will
put forward proposals for a new financial system.
Tonight's symposium will discuss the history of the original
Bretton Woods System and the importance of how a new system will be
created today.
Two days after the close of this BRICS summit, my campaign,
together with Jose Vega's campaign, are sponsoring a
major meeting for peace and development in New York
City. We encourage you to attend!
