Data Reveal Juvenile Court Cases Declined in 2021

OJJDP NIJ Report on Juvenile Delinquency Cases

OJJDP and the National Institute of Justice have released the "Delinquency Cases in Juvenile Court, 2021" fact sheet showing statistics on delinquency cases handled in U.S. juvenile courts from 2005 to 2021.

During that period, the number of delinquency cases involving juveniles declined 73 percent. Decreases were experienced in all four offense categories: property, public order, person, and drug law violation cases. These estimates are based on data from nearly 2,400 courts with jurisdiction over 83 percent of the nation’s juvenile population in 2021.

This fact sheet is derived from the OJJDP-sponsored report "Juvenile Court Statistics 2021" and was developed with support from the National Institute of Justice.
