Resources are available: Help your students prepare for financial aid applications!
Financial aid season is coming soon. Students can take important steps before applications open in December. The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) provides information and resources to help you support your students:
Access resources designed for counselors and other financial aid advocates:
- Even though financial aid applications are delayed—opening December 1—there are many opportunities to support students with Financial Aid Advising Day (FAAD) activities. Easy-to-implement FAAD lesson plans are available to support your FAAD activities.
- Stay informed and access numerous resources and updates on WSAC’s practitioner padlet. Subscribe to be notified of our most current updates.
Guide students to take their first step now by creating a FAFSA or WASFA account:
- Students can create a FSA ID on the Federal Student Aid website. The US Department of Education estimates only 8% of Washington’s high school seniors have created an FSA ID. Now is a great time to bring that number up!
- Students can create a WASFA account on the WSAC website if they’re ineligible to use FAFSA.
- Remind them to remember their login info or store it somewhere secure, and not to share this info with anyone. The FSA ID & WAFSA Account Creation Worksheet (English | Spanish) can help students and parents collect and remember all the information needed to create an FSA ID or WASFA Account.
Spread WSAC’s Student & Family Messaging, beginning next week!
- Throughout the school year, WSAC will be sending emails to our partners with info for students and families. Messages include resources and draft content that you can use as-is in your organization’s emails or newsletters, or repurpose in whatever way is easiest to share with people in your community who need it most.
Check out a financial aid training webinar:
- View the ”Financial Aid Basics” training, recorded in September.
- Join WSAC’s live webinar on helping others apply for financial aid, which will be offered after applications open in December. This session will prepare participants to assist students and families with the FAFSA or WASFA, including how to apply, common errors and challenges, and next steps. Registration info will be available soon.
Thank you for the vitally important work you do to support students and families in your community. We look forward to another year of partnership!
Sincerely, The WSAC Team
