It’s nearly time, John.
It’s nearly time, John.
This week, ballots are being mailed out in Washington, and people will begin voting in the most consequential election of our lifetimes. Donald Trump has promised to conduct a mass deportation campaign and deploy the military against Americans who don’t support him. We need to take his threats to our democracy seriously.
I’m encouraging everyone to vote all the way down the ballot, including Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for President and Vice President, Bob Ferguson for Governor, Nick Brown for Attorney General, Maria Cantwell for Senate, and Dave Upthegrove for Lands Commissioner.
I’m also encouraging people to vote “NO” on all four ballot initiatives. Each of them would repeal a landmark piece of legislation passed by the Democrats in the state legislature and roll back hard-won progress we’ve made on fighting climate change, investing in education, lowering utility costs, and providing health care:
- Initiative 2117 would allow more pollution across Washington state, threatening our air, waterways and health. And it would slash funding for our state’s transportation plan, putting roads and bridges at risk, cutting transit services and leaving us with more traffic.
- Initiative 2109 would repeal our state’s capital gains tax on Wall Street profits, giving a tax break to Washington's mega-millionaires and billionaires while slashing $2.2 billion from childcare and public education over the next 5 years.
- Initiative 2066 would increase energy bills, repeal important customer rebates, and stop communities from making decisions that work best for them.
- Initiative 2124 would bankrupt Washington’s long term care insurance program, driving up costs for all of us and putting more pressure on women to leave their careers to care for loved ones with disabilities, chronic illness, or who are aging.
Make sure to deposit your ballot in an official drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day!
Our democracy, our planet, and our fundamental rights are on the ballot. That’s why I’m personally leading door-knocking teams, and our campaign has teamed up with the Harris-Walz campaign to conduct phone banks into swing states across the country. There’s too much at stake to sit on the sidelines.
With ballots dropping tomorrow, we need your support now as much as ever to keep up our critical outreach work ahead of Election Day. Will you please pitch in $3 or any amount that you can afford to help us out today?
