I'm a mom and a policymaker who understands the struggle that parents in Oregon and around the country face when trying to provide care for their young children.

Child care is essential for children, families, and the economy, and it's an investment in our future. But the outrageous costs of quality child care right now places an excessive burden on parents, and disproportionately on women. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz envision a better child care system for parents and families.

Kamala Harris announced her plan to cap total child care costs for families to no more than 7 percent of their household income – welcome relief that will allow parents to budget and plan for expenses ahead of time.

This proposal is just one of many that will support caregiving and families. In a Harris-Walz administration we can expect federal paid family and medical leave, an expanded Child Tax Credit, and substantial down-payment assistance to first-time homebuyers.

There are significant benefits with these policy proposals – they will bring stability and certainty to workers, families, parents, employers, and the economy.

Thank you for standing with me,

Suzanne
