John, Israel’s invasion of Lebanon is worsening by the day.
Last week, the Israeli military launched airstrikes in the heart of Beirut that leveled a building, killed at least 22 people, and injured over 100. At the same time in southern Lebanon, an Israeli tank deliberately fired at United Nations peacekeepers, injuring at least two. They’ve attacked this UN watchtower several times since, including firing on peacekeepers in the past 24 hours and using chemical weapons.
More than 37 Lebanese hospitals have had to close after dozens of medical staff were killed by Israeli strikes, according to the World Health Organization. And just yesterday, Israel’s military wiped out an entire residential village on camera.
Israel is carrying out war crimes and an invasion against a sovereign nation, John.
As the Israeli military’s aggression worsens, U.S. citizens in Lebanon are being left with few options to escape, with airline ticket prices skyrocketing into thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars. While the U.S. Department of State has advised its citizens to leave Lebanon for their safety, it is not doing enough to evacuate or stop Israel’s indiscriminate attacks against them.
Dr. Kamel Ahmad Jawad, a U.S. resident from Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s district of Dearborn, MI was recently killed by Israeli forces while bravely trying to save lives.
As we continue to demand our government stop enabling Israel’s genocide of Gaza and indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Lebanon, the Biden Administration must do a better job at protecting and evacuating its citizens from these war zones.
In solidarity,
