CNL OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
What We’re Up To
With only a few weeks left until election day, this month is our final opportunity to engage with our local communities and get voters out to the polls! Our chapters are taking advantage of the energy building around the Presidential, Senate, and House races, hosting debate watch parties and leading canvassing efforts across the country.
As Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump faced off in the final presidential debate of this election cycle, our members tuned in to watch Harris argue Trump on key issues such as the economy, reproductive rights, housing, and the cost of living on September 10th. CNL chapters across North America held presidential debate watch parties, drawing in hundreds of local community members. Shoutout to our DC, NYC, Seattle, and Toronto chapters! Our DC and Columbus chapters organized watch parties for the Walz v. Vance vice presidential debate.
Our chapters have also been busy canvassing for New Liberal-endorsed candidates that will offer a pragmatic voice and stand up for our liberal values when they are elected to Congress and local office.
Given Trump’s recent trend of announcing bad economic policies targeted at specific voters, we were inspired to create a Donald Trump Economic Policy Generator. It was featured in NY Magazine! Try out the generator below!

Supporting and Protecting Our Elections
With only a few weeks until the 2024 election, we're excited to announce that the Center for New Liberalism has signed on as an official endorser of the Principles for Trusted Elections (PTE) [[link removed]], a commitment to support free, fair, and secure elections through five pillars:
-Integrity
-Nonviolence
-Secure voting
-Responsible oversight
-A peaceful transfer of power
This initiative was co-founded by the President Jimmy Carter Center [[link removed]] and the Gerald Ford Presidential Foundation [[link removed]], two former Presidents who worked across partisan lines and were models of civility as Presidents, even after their leaving office.
You can help protect free, fair, and secure elections, too! It takes less than 2 minutes to sign the citizen's pledge for Principles for Trusted Elections. Once signed, it will immediately let your candidates and elected officials know that you want leaders who honor the electoral process.

Title: A Warning to America from Vichy
Author & Chapter: Nick Felker, NYC New Liberals
Quote: “But we’ve already seen where Project 2025 will take us. Vichy France tried to form a Christian nationalist autocracy with many of the same ideas around education, religion, and out-groups. And that did not lead France to an era of prosperity. It led to economic ruin, starvation, and complicity in evil.”

Title: Economic Growth Is Good, Actually
Author & Chapter: Jeremiah Johnson, Co-Founder of CNL
Quote: “Economic growth isn’t a perfect metric, but it’s the best way we have to chart a society’s material progress. If you insist on ignoring it in favor of some other set of values—community! tradition!—you’ll succeed in stagnating your economy while doing nothing to actually improve your community or your traditions.”

Title: Donald Trump Wants to Make America Inflationary Again
Mention & Chapter: CNL
Quote: “On Friday, with 24 days until the election, the internet bequeathed us the Donald Trump Economic Policy Generator. “Today, while on the Talk Tuah podcast, Donald Trump promised that, if elected, he will enact a 5000% tariff on inflatable flamingos from The Shire,” the parody site spits out. Another one: “Today, while on a livestream with Andrew Tate, Donald Trump promised that, if elected, he will make donations to his presidential campaign tax deductible for social media influencers.” You get the idea.”
