CfA's May 8, 2020 Newsletter
Thank you for your continued support of CfA. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are still working to hold the powerful accountable, especially as it pertains to topics relevant to the current crisis.
Our Latest Actions:
- TTP Investigation: Facebook is Allowing Sales of Wildlife Linked to Coronavirus: On Wednesday, CfA and TTP published a report revealing that pangolins, one of the world’s most trafficked mammals, are being openly sold on Facebook. Recently, pangolins have emerged as a possible conduit in the transmission of Covid-19 to humans, making the trade even more alarming. (Press Release, Report)
What We're Reading:
- The Federal Reserve Has Pumped Money Into the Capital Markets. Guess Who’s Gotten It: "Companies like Boeing have boosted their balance sheets with huge loans while laying off workers. Meanwhile, the PPP is rife with inequities, and those who need help the most aren’t getting it." (Vanity Fair, May 7 2020)
- Court hears Baltimore challenge to Trump administration’s abortion-referral restrictions: "Under the rule issued last year, [HHS] banned health centers that provide abortions — or refer patients for abortions — from receiving any money from the 50-year-old program that primarily serves low-income women." (The Washington Post, May 7 2020)
- Facebook and Google extend working from home to end of year: "The tech giants have announced plans to reopen their offices soon but are allowing more home working flexibility. Google originally said it would keep its work from home policy until 1 June, but is extending it for seven more months." (BBC News, May 8 2020)
