Dear John xxxxxx,

Since April 2023, Sudan has been facing one of the most devastating humanitarian crises in the world. The ongoing conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has displaced over 11 million people internally, with an additional 2.3 million fleeing to neighboring countries. Human rights organizations estimate that more than 20,000 people have been killed, and in Darfur, reports indicate that ethnic cleansing is being carried out against non-Arab Sudanese communities.

Representative Sara Jacobs has introduced a bill to ensure that U.S. weapons are not misused by third parties to carry out human rights violations.

This bill would require the President to halt all sales of weapons and defense articles to the UAE until it can be certified that the UAE is no longer providing material support to the RSF. Passing this legislation is a crucial step in holding recipients of U.S. military assistance fueling human rights abuses, ethnic cleansing, and potentially genocide in Sudan.

The people of Sudan are enduring unimaginable violence, including forced starvation, sexual and gender-based violence, displacement, torture, and lack of access to medical care. Even more troubling is the fact that the RSF continues to be funded and armed by external actors, including the United Arab Emirates, which has supplied arms, troops, and financial support. The RSF was previously responsible for carrying out the Darfur Genocide in 2003.

The people of Sudan urgently need your help. Congress has waited too long to address the prolonged crisis in Sudan.

As always, thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Hanna Dasoo
