Hi there,
As the newest addition to the GGWash team, allow me to introduce myself: I'm Tricia Chicka, the Communications Intern for fall 2024. I am taking the reins of many of our email communications and excited to work with these excellent folks on important issues for our region. You can read more about me here.
Isn't this photo from the Fall Mixer great? It reminds me of the bike commuting and outdoor recreation mantra: No bad weather, only ill-suited gear. The GGWash crowd is not afraid of a little rain and knows how to prepare for it with style!
We have many great events for you to check out, including a Readers and Writers Happy Hour on October 29th. Read on to learn more about what's going on in the region... |

A Conversation with Jerusalem Demsas Tuesday, November 12, 6:30pm-8:00pm (Doors open at 6pm)
People's Book, 7014 Westmoreland Avenue, Suite A, Takoma Park
More and more Americans are feeling the pain of our national housing crisis, but often struggle to pin down the actual cause. In her new book, On the Housing Crisis: Land, Development, Democracy, Jerusalem Demsas, staff writer for the Atlantic, breaks down in plain language how the democratic process has been hijacked to throw up barriers to homebuilding.
Join Jerusalem for a lively conversation with Greater Greater Washington policy directors Alex Baca and Dan Reed, where we’ll talk about ways to create a healthier, more productive form of local government.
And: if you live in Montgomery County, come when the doors open (6:00pm) and show your support for Attainable Housing Strategies–the county’s proposal to make it easier to build more homes and more types of homes in areas where you can’t today–by writing a postcard to the County Council, sponsored by Montgomery for All.

Ride/Walk For Your Life Sunday, November 17 (Ride is at 10am and Walk is at 11am)
For the third year running, join forces with others across America to raise your voices on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Ride for Your Life 2024 is an 8-mile slow ride (register here) and separate one-mile walk (register here) to the Lincoln Memorial that will send a clear message about roadway safety to our leaders as a new Congress and presidential administration takes shape. The more people show up, the more attention we will get, and the safer the roads will become.
If you'd like to support by volunteering, sign up here.
The ride, specifically, will retrace the route that mother and U.S. diplomat Sarah Debbink Langenkamp took in Bethesda the day she died riding her bike in 2022, continuing to the Lincoln Memorial where there will be a rally to press for change on our roadways. The walk will depart from Freedom Plaza. |
