Our tax code is fundamentally broken, and it’s hurting millions of Americans.

Billionaires and corporations rig the system and abuse loopholes to pay far less in taxes than many middle-class families by a percentage of income. Meanwhile Black families face IRS audits at rates 3-5 times higher than non-Black families¹ and the racial wealth gap continues to widen, with the median white family now holding many times the wealth of the median Black family².

This isn’t just about numbers. It’s about families struggling to make ends meet while the ultra-wealthy exploit the current unjust tax regime to accumulate more money than they could spend in a lifetime. It’s about communities being denied the resources they need to thrive because billions in potential tax revenue go unpaid because of exploited loopholes. It’s about a system that perpetuates racial inequities instead of reducing them.

But we can change this. A new report by Americans for Tax Fairness and Color Of Change, outlines possible solutions to address tax policies that widen the racial wealth gap. And we’re joining a broad coalition of organizations to demand Congress take action to address this issue. Will you add your name?

We need to transform our tax system and take steps to build a system that centers economic justice. And that’s why we’re joining our allies and demanding that Congress address this issue head-on.

Enacting the kinds of reforms laid out by our allies could generate over $500 billion in revenue over the next decade. That’s $500 billion that could be invested in education, healthcare, affordable housing, and economic opportunities in communities that have been historically marginalized.

The ultra-wealthy and their lobbyists are working hard to keep things as they are. We can’t let them win.
