Nebraska to hold primary elections as scheduled May 12
Nebraska will hold its statewide primary elections as scheduled on Tuesday—May 12. It will be the first state to hold in-person statewide elections since Wisconsin on April 7. Nebraska is one of 27 states that have changed its absentee and mail-in voting procedures. Governor Pete Ricketts (R) and Secretary of State Bob Evnen (R) announced March 26 that every registered voter would receive an absentee ballot application by mail.
SCOTUS issues new rules for May remote oral arguments
The U.S. Supreme Court released rules last week for handling remote oral arguments in a number of cases scheduled for May. This followed an announcement from earlier in April when the court declared it would release live audio of the proceedings to the public for the first time in history.
Massachusetts becomes the first state to allow electronic signatures for 2020 ballot initiative petitions
On April 29, four ballot initiative campaigns in Massachusetts and Secretary of State William Galvin (D) agreed to a resolution allowing the campaigns to gather a second round of 13,347 signatures electronically. In doing so, Massachusetts became the first state to allow electronic signatures for a 2020 ballot initiative petition.

President Trump has appointed 193 Senate-confirmed Article III federal judges through May 1—the second-highest number through the same point in the seven presidencies since 1980.
