Councillor Khan at the site of the new bridge
Iâm proud that our ambitious project to create a new landmark bridge for Nottingham will be presented at our Councilâs Executive Board on 22 October.
The new bridge will be the first built over the Trent in Nottingham for more than 60 years, creating a vital link between developing new communities and opening up new safer commuter and leisure routes, offering a huge boost to cyclists, pedestrians and runners as well as everyone in our city through improving air quality and congestion â another step towards our ambition to be Carbon Neutral by 2028.
Itâs important that we make good things happen for our city â and find more ways to make it a better place where people can live, work and visit. There will be lots of children and teachers breaking up for half-term holidays this week. I would like to congratulate everyone on completing their first term of the school year and to encourage as many people as possible to take part in the fun activities on offer in our city.
You can find more information about whatâs on by going to our Visit Nottinghamshire website â which includes details of the Halloween activities first including the return of the monsters and the Halloween party at Nottingham Castle.Â
Nottinghamâs premier Christmas entertainment attraction opens at Old Market Square on Wednesday 13 November, allowing festive fun-seekers to indulge in all things Christmas until New Yearâs Eve!
Returning this year will be the popular Ice Rink and Sky Skate Ice Path, plus a new childrenâs ice rink complete with penguin aids. With an exciting new theme, the Ice Bar will open its doors to visitors wishing to chill out in the frosty minus 10-degree temperature, and the two alpine-themed bars, Sur La Piste and Altitude, will provide the perfect festive backdrop for after-work drinks, date nights, and meet-ups with friends and family.
The Christmas Market stalls will offer seasonal food and drink and unique handmade gifts, or you can take a break from shopping and experience the Observation Wheel, which gives the best view of the city.
Entry to Winter Wonderland is free, but some activities are ticketed and we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Nottingham City residents can also receive a 10% discount on super off-peak and off-peak ice skating bookings.

Nottingham City Councilâs ambitious project to build a new 85metre long pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Trent between Trent Basin and Lady Bay has reached a new milestone, with the project expected to receive a final approval from the Council at its Executive Board meeting on 22 October.
Once this approval is given, the Council expects to enter into contract with delivery partner Balfour Beatty in the new year, before enabling works begin.Â
The bridge will be the flagship, and final project to come out of the City Councilâs Transforming Cities Fund programme, which began in 2020 following a successful bid for over ÂŁ160million of central Government funding for projects which encourage inter-city connectivity and lower carbon journeys. Â
The new traffic-free bridge, the first to be built over the river Trent since Clifton Bridge in the 1950s, and its new and enhanced connecting paths will be a key link between the regenerating Trent Basin area with its new homes and schools, and the south side of the river with its many sports facilities including the City Ground, Trent Bridge, Holme Pierrepont and Nottingham Rugby Club.
By enhancing connections between communities, green spaces and riverside paths, the bridge will make it easier for people living and working in the Nottingham area to travel in a more sustainable way, linking those in communities such as Sneinton and the city centre with green space south of the river.
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust are one of many organisations who have taken advantage of a grant via our Workplace Travel Service.Â
