How do you know when it’s safe to get a haircut? Or go to a restaurant?

Personally, I would want those decisions to be guided by public health experts. Instead, we’ve got Jared Kushner leading a band of unqualified volunteers over private email servers. And instead of keeping Americans safe, they’re focused on protecting corporate profits. This strategy will lead to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths―many of them older Americans.

I, too, would like our country to get back to work. Unemployment has shot up to Great Depression levels, but it’s not going to get better while thousands are dying every day.

Jared's focus—pushing to prematurely reopen the economy, putting corporate profits ahead of people's lives—is incredibly reckless, especially for seniors, who are most affected by COVID-19. The idea of placing profits, and politics, over the health of people is disgusting.

The Trump administration’s whole response to the pandemic has put seniors last. From allowing nursing homes to become COVID hotspots to forcing people on Social Security to jump through additional hoops to receive the $1200 payment to which they are entitled, it has been an insult to older Americans. And now, seniors are being asked to sacrifice their lives for corporate profits.

We need officials who take science seriously, who genuinely care about communities across the country, and who will do all in their power to protect essential frontline workers as this virus continues to spread.
