Dear Friend,
Sometimes I feel like we’ve lived 6 years in the span of this very short election season that is just months long. You feel me? We’re in the home stretch and exercising our right to vote is critically important. We have so much on the line and so much opportunity to advance real change for families, including advancing affordable child care!
In this moment, right now, the choices have truly never been more clear: In fact, did you know VP Harris and Governor Walz support childcare, paid family and medical leave, and reproductive freedom -- and that Trump/Vance DON'T support those critically important policies?
VP Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz are the ONLY candidates in the Presidential race to have earned our mom-built, mom-approved Moms’ Seal of Approval on Child Care. *Click here to learn more about all the candidates across the country who have also earned this high honor.
And your vote is important: Democrats like VP Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz support expanding access to childcare, including expanding family choice to find the option that best meets a family’s needs (including in faith-based settings) – and Republicans have harmfully blocked this time and time again.
Your voice is important too. Voters are telling candidates what moms and families have long known: 89% of voters want candidates to have a plan to help families find and access affordable child care, and unsurprisingly but importantly, 8 in 10 Americans say they are more likely to support a candidate for Congress who supports expanding affordable childcare options. [2]
And it’s not surprising why given that two-thirds of children from birth through age 12 have all available parents in the workforce. [3] And many more parents would join the workforce if good child care options were available. But, over the last decade, the median cost for child care has increased a staggering 36 percent. [4] Unfortunately, 34% of parents report having to leave much-needed jobs because of lack of child care. [5] This hurts families and businesses alike. So it makes sense that studies show the U.S. actually loses $122 billion each year in economic productivity and revenue losses due to child care. [6]
It doesn’t have to be this way. Solutions are possible – and candidates like Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz are fighting for those solutions every day. The moms of America want every candidate for public office to truly stand with families by also putting forward policies that meet the needs of moms, families, businesses, and our economy. Candidates who receive the Moms' Seal of Approval on Child Care (like Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, along with more than 100 other candidates up and down that ballot have successfully done) commit to working in partnership with families and providers to advance child care policy change that make it affordable, more accessible so families have the freedom to choose care settings that meet their needs, and to increase quality by providing family-sustaining wages to the child care educator workforce. [7]
We need more candidates and elected leaders like VP Harris and Governor Tim Walz who commit to being champions for the policies we as families need and deserve. *Click here to learn more about all the candidates who are stepping up to be child care champions.
The good news is that VP Harris and Governor Tim Walz are true champions for child care and, as the kids say, they have the receipts to back it up! [1] As a Presidential candidate, Harris has proposed making child care more affordable so that families pay no more than $10 a day on child care, raising the wages of child care providers so they can provide for their own families, and increasing access to child care choices that meet the needs of all families! [2] Now that is a policy that is music to families’ ears!
It’s voting season. Get your vote on, involve the kids in your life, have fun – and let’s win this for our families and our democracy!
