John, I want to take a moment to tell you about the Kamala Harris that I know.
For the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of calling her a friend, a Senate colleague, my Vice President — my sister.
Our service for our respective Bay Area and Newark communities mirrored in so many ways as we worked to help people. Kamala, as an Alameda County assistant district attorney seeking justice for victims of crime. Myself, as a Newark council member disrupting the machine politics that was leaving people behind.
We knew we had to do more, so we ran — Kamala for San Francisco District Attorney and California Attorney General, and I for Newark mayor.
Kamala’s election to the United States Senate occurred on the same night that we elected Donald Trump.
I knew that the chamber had gained someone with the tenacity, the courage, and the character to stand up to his administration, and she did. Countless times. Awakening the nation with her principled line of questioning in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing room for Supreme Court justice nominees, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, always telling the truth, always holding our government officials to the same, equally high standards.
When our nation erupted in righteous anger at the murder of George Floyd in the largest mass movement for justice in modern history, Kamala and I co-authored the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
We fought together for voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, and rescuing our nation from the pandemic.
And when she ran alongside Joe Biden and won, I knew we would have not one, but two extraordinary partners in the White House to work with our Congress.
We have made some extraordinary progress in the last four years.
And I know that if we can elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States, with a Congress she can work with, we can pick up that baton of progress and carry it forward for the next generation.
Forward. That is the direction we must go.
So I must ask, John, with just 20 days to go, will you pitch in $20 or more to help do this together in the final stretch of this campaign? [[link removed]]
