Dear MoveOn member,
Against all odds, Democrats have a real shot at stopping a MAGA takeover of the Senate—even in this challenging election cycle. But we have an extremely narrow window to act.
We'll tell you more about this remarkable opportunity below. But first, we're asking you to rush a donation right now to help reelect progressive Senate champions Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin–and fuel MoveOn's critical get-out-the-vote campaign through these final critical days.
Click here to chip in $9—or whatever you can afford. Your donation will be split equally between Sherrod Brown, Tammy Baldwin, and MoveOn.
Our chance to stop a MAGA takeover of the Senate is truly remarkable when you consider that Republicans expected to have the Senate locked down this year.
The Senate map was thought to be extraordinarily bad for Democrats this year. To win control, Republicans needed only to protect the seats they already held—all of which are in red states that Donald Trump won by a margin of at least 3% in 2020—as well as pick up Democratic seats in strongly conservative Montana and in West Virginia—where Democrat Joe Manchin is retiring and Trump leads by double digits.1
Yet, due to dogged campaigning from Democrats and progressives, candidates in states previously written off as deep red now have an opportunity that no one saw coming, as recent polling shows Republicans struggling to secure seats they should have easily won.2
This is an enormous opportunity, but seizing it won't be easy. We need to fight for every last vote. And we have to make sure that progressive champions keep their Senate seats, including two key senators: Sherrod Brown in Ohio and Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin.
Senator Brown's campaign is demonstrating enormous strength in Ohio—which is truly incredible—given that the state leans more Republican than Texas or Florida. Despite facing a MAGA opponent, Bernie Moreno, who wants to further erode our freedom and self-determination and spreads fearmongering lies, Sen. Brown is holding his ground.
Sen. Brown has taken on Wall Street greed—for example, by pushing to crack down on Wall Street buying up single-family homes.3
Brown also led the way to expand Medicare and health care access—in particular, fighting to protect the right to abortion both before and after the repeal of Roe.4
On the other hand, his opponent, Moreno, has said it's "crazy" to vote for abortion rights and that women over 50 shouldn't care about reproductive freedom at all!
Recent internal polling shows the race tightening, with Sen. Brown slipping 7 percentage points since August. But still, he is leading Moreno by 6 points as of mid-October.5 Amazing!
In Wisconsin, the Senate race also has tightened significantly.6
Wisconsin is a must-win state for control of the Senate, and it's also crucial that we defend this seat no matter what, because Senator Baldwin co-authored the Women's Health Protection Act, which would codify abortion access nationwide.7 On the other hand, Republican opponent Eric Hovde agreed with overturning Roe v. Wade and has called being transgender "insanity."8
October surveys show Sen. Baldwin just 1 point ahead of Hovde, shifting her race to a true toss-up.9 We can't afford to lose either of these progressive champions for so many reasons, including that it will mean a MAGA takeover of the Senate.
Sens. Brown and Baldwin have fought for us when it has mattered most over many years and in tough states with slim margins. Now, they need us to fight for them.
John, we are in the final stretch—and, when it comes to preventing a Republican takeover of the Senate, every dollar counts.
MoveOn is running a massive voter turnout campaign, deploying innovative tactics like vote tripling—where one voter encourages two others to cast their ballots. This method has up to five times the impact on turning out voters compared to traditional get-out-the-vote efforts.10
In addition to vote tripling, we're expanding our hard-hitting abortion rights ads to motivate surge voters who need that extra push to get to the polls.
As a MoveOn member, you know that democracy is on the line this year. We must do everything possible to stop a MAGA takeover.
There is no do-over after November 6, which is why we have to devote every single dollar—and volunteer hour—possible to the election right now.
And let's be clear: This is about more than holding Senate seats.
It's about protecting democracy, our rights, and our freedoms. It's about making sure that if Vice President Kamala Harris wins, she can govern. And that if Trump wins the presidency, there's some kind of firewall to stop the harm and chaos he will cause.
It's also about saving the Supreme Court, or losing control for a generation.11
Because if Republicans take back control of the Senate—and hold control for a Harris term—then, make no mistake: They will have the power to block President Harris from appointing even a single Supreme Court justice by simply refusing to confirm any nominee that she puts forward.
Don't believe they'd stoop that low? Look at what Mitch McConnell did to steal a Supreme Court seat from President Obama.12
Now, imagine what an emboldened MAGA-majority Senate would do. But we can stop this before it starts, with your help.
If Democrats lose Wisconsin or Ohio, we almost certainly lose control of the Senate—and our odds of winning the presidential election go down too.
We have an enormous opportunity to reelect our progressive champions to the Senate, so they can keep fighting for all of us—and bring out the votes to increase our odds of winning the White House.
To save the future of our democracy, the Supreme Court, and our rights for generations to come, we must save the Senate. And with your help, we will.
Thanks so much for your support. Let's make the most of this moment and win.

Want to support MoveOn? The MAGA right is declaring war, and Project 2025 is their battle plan. Project 2025 threatens our rights, attacks communities of color, hurts middle- and working-class families, and undermines our democracy. But we will not back down or let Trump steamroll our nation.
Will you donate to power MoveOn's election plan, stop Trump, and ensure Project 2025 is never enacted?
