At a time when Americans are already facing unprecedented obstacles to voting, we have to act now to protect our democracy in November.
This is bad, John.
The New York Times and other media outlets are reporting that the Trump administration is tapping a major Republican donor to lead the United States Postal Service โ an agency Trump has gleefully referred to as "a joke."
Let's be very clear about this: Trump is tapping a crony with zero experience to head a service that many states will rely on to deliver ballots to voters so they can vote this year without risking their health.
At a time when Americans are already facing unprecedented obstacles to voting, we have to act now to protect our democracy in November.
Making voting safer and easier during a deadly pandemic shouldn't be up for debate. But we shouldn't be surprised when corrupt politicians and the billionaire class do everything in their power to make it harder for working people to vote, especially Black and Brown people โ just look at what happened in Wisconsin last month.
We need to press Congress to look out for voters, not corporate CEOs โ and to ensure that all voters can be heard.
Putting these systems in place takes a lot of time and effort. And with less than six months to go until Election Day in November, we need to get this done.
