Friend, it's pretty clear what Donald Trump's view of justice is:

If you're a friend or politically ally of his, you get special treatment.

Yesterday, Trump's Department of Justice -- at the behest of Attorney General Bill Barr, who's long shown that he puts politics before the law -- asked for charges to be dropped against former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Flynn has twice pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with international actors who were seeking to undermine American interests.

The Trump administration's repeated interventions on behalf of their allies violate the rule of law and the importance of an independent judiciary. They are all the more outrageous given the gross inequality that already exists within our criminal justice system.

This is the behavior of an authoritarian president who cares nothing for the rule of law or our national security -- and it's behavior that John Katko enabled when he endorsed Trump and refused to hold him accountable for impeachable offenses.

We deserve better. So we have to channel the outrage we feel at this moment into action. That means not only winning the White House in November, but also defeating Republicans like John Katko, who've put loyalty to Trump over doing what's right for the country.
