On the eve of the 35th anniversary
of the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake, many of us remember that
frightening moment at 5:04 p.m. that shook our city and the entire Bay
Area. If you were here, you remember exactly where you were when it
hit.
Back then, we had faith in our
city’s disaster response, because it was led by then-Mayor Art Agnos,
whose extensive and varied government experience prepared him to
manage resources and lead the City through one of its city’s worst
disasters.
When the COVID crisis hit
in 2020, Mayor Breed boldly and courageously took quick action to save
thousands of lives. She had extensive and varied government
experience, which enabled her to manage effectively. She had the
experience to know how dire the situation could be – especially among
our most vulnerable citizens – and, just as importantly, she knew how
dangerous inaction could be. She had to make tough decisions, and the
stakes couldn’t have been higher.
The Chronicle put it plainly:
“Breed deserves credit for how she handled these
immense challenges.”
Putting San Francisco in the hands
of a Mayor with zero experience is a big risk. When it comes to Daniel
Lurie's utter lack of experience or qualifications, the
Chronicle put this plainly as well:
These are not abstract
concepts.
This City has been through tough
times before. Assassinations. Terrorist threats. AIDS and COVID. And,
of course, earthquakes.
Because of Mayor Breed’s
battle-tested, proven leadership, San Francisco is on the rise, and
she is prepared for any crisis we may face.
Don’t gamble our city’s future on
a risky, untested candidate who has never faced or managed a crisis.
Who has never faced a tough decision. The Mayor’s Office is no place
for on-the-job training. Real lives hang in the balance.
As the Chronicle unequivocally states: “Breed
is the safe pick.”
