friend,

As we get closer to the election, it's important that we focus on areas of greatest need. As our friends in Florida recover from the impact of the hurricanes, it is more important than ever to support fair elections in the state.

We have two projects in Florida that could really use help from out-of-state volunteers. Lawyers are needed to serve as Voting Rights Legal Monitors on Election Day (November 5), responding to voting rights and accessibility issues at polling sites. Lawyers are also needed to serve as Canvassing Board Advocates around Election Day, to attend, document, and advocate at county canvassing board meetings. If you plan on traveling around election day, please consider one of these projects in Florida, or visit our Voter Protection Guide for more opportunities.

6—10 HOURS

Family Reunification Project for Unaccompanied Immigrant Children

VECINA

With thousands of unaccompanied immigrant children currently detained, lawyers are needed to help reunite them with their families and/or sponsors in the U.S. Training and mentorship are provided, and experience with immigration law is not necessary. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers may be barred in any state.

1—5 HOURS

Create Online Description of Tax Exempt Status

Justice Technology Association

JTA is working to bring together like-minded tech entrepreneurs in pursuit of equity in the justice system. They are registered with both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) status, and want to make sure that their website language accurately and legally represents the distinctions between those statuses.  Technology and Telecoms/Corporate expertise are required, and lawyers may be barred in any state.

1—5 HOURS

Draft Investment Policy for Rare Disease NPO

CACNA1A Foundation

The CACNA1A Foundation board would like to adopt an investment policy before it invests a portion of its cash in investment vehicles such as bonds, money market funds and other financial instruments. They need a lawyer to draft an investment policy that establishes investment objectives, policies, guidelines and eligible securities related to all assets held by the nonprofit. This is a remote project, and lawyers may be barred in any state.
