John, October is
Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we have to talk about the deadly
connection between gun violence and domestic violence.
* 68% of mass shootings involve a perpetrator with a history of domestic
violence
* Domestic gun violence is one of the leading causes of homicide death
for women in America
* Access to a gun makes it five times more likely that a woman will die
at the hands of her abuser
* Every single day, an average of 2.5 women in America are shot and
killed by an intimate partner
* Every month, 76 women are shot and killed by intimate partners
Families are crying out for help but our current system favors abusive gun
owners over victims. This is unacceptable.
This past summer, the Supreme Court overturned the Fifth Circuit court’s
decision in U.S. v. Rahimi, rightfully upholding a life-saving federal law
that bars domestic violence abusers from possessing guns. This is a strong
first step but there’s more to do to ensure that abusers aren’t armed. And
the fact this even happened in the first place is a failure.
Rahimi may stand, but because of NYSRPA v. Bruen, the 2022 decision where
SCOTUS overturned common-sense laws that simply invite responsibility for
carrying concealed firearms, gun safety progress is threatened in courts
across the country.
We must keep guns out of abusers' hands everywhere — period. We can’t let
our leaders continue to prioritize the gun lobby, far-right extremists,
and the NRA over protecting victims of domestic violence.
[ [link removed] ]We need gun safety champions in leadership positions and we need courts
to uphold laws that protect innocent victims. We’re organizing for that
right this minute,
John, and we don’t have time
to slow down. Can you help us secure a future free from gun violence by
chipping in $5 to support our work?

Your Personal Invite To the Movement Fund 💌💙
At March For Our Lives, we call our monthly supporter program The
Movement Fund.
Why are monthly recurring donors so important? The amount of one-time
individual donations we receive as an organization varies vastly from
month to month.
Without a steady stream of monthly donations coming in our door, it
would be impossible to accurately plan our budgets, create long-term
strategies to win a future free from gun violence, plan and execute
on-the-ground organizing efforts, recruit and train more gun safety
champions, and more.
[ [link removed] ]One of the best ways that you can help sustain our movement is by
becoming a recurring monthly donor. Can you sign up today?
