Dear friend,

Violent conflict, climate change, and rising costs of living — many
countries across the globe face these challenges that can leave millions
of families hungry.

Mercy Corps helps communities address food insecurity by building
sustainable food systems. That means families are able to produce
nutritious food and sell the surplus to cover other needs.

Fighting hunger requires all of our effort, resources, and commitment to
ensure families and communities can grow their own food, provide for
themselves, and live healthy, prosperous lives. [ [link removed] ]On this World Food Day,
will you pledge your support to help combat hunger?

As we celebrate this year’s World Food Day, we wanted to share stories
from three countries where Mercy Corps is helping families and
communities:

Sudan

[ [link removed] ]In Sudan, Mercy Corps provides farmers with seeds and fertilizers
as they work to improve food security in the region.

Sudanese families are currently in the midst of a violent conflict that
has led to mass displacement and severe disruptions to food production,
causing acute hunger for more than 25 million people.

Mercy Corps is ensuring farmers have access to seeds, fertilizer, and
other agricultural supplies to help boost food production. We are also
supporting the recovery of agricultural markets by providing access to
cash, credit, and warehousing assistance to farmers, and improving
farmers’ safety by removing explosive remnants of war in agricultural
areas.

Mauritania

[ [link removed] ]In Mauritania, a significant challenge to food production has led
to widespread hunger for families. Mauritania relies on agriculture,
yet only 0.4% of its land is suitable for food production as most of
its surface is covered by desert. More than 650,000 people,
representing around 14% of the population have been projected to
experience food insecurity this fall.

Mercy Corps is supporting Mauritanian farmers with cash assistance to buy
climate-resilient seeds and farming equipment. Mercy Corps is also helping
farmers hire more workers, allowing them to cultivate more soil and yield
more crops.

Nigeria

[ [link removed] ]In Nigeria, Mercy Corps helps ginger farmers increase productivity
and income and build long-term financial stability and resilience.

Conflict and displacement in Nigeria has been a driving force of hunger
for many families across the country. More than 25 million people in
Nigeria face acute levels of hunger.

Mercy Corps is helping ginger farmers in Nigeria with training sessions on
sustainable farming practices. With this new knowledge, farmers are able
to increase productivity, yield more crops, sell more in the markets, and
make money to buy ingredients for cooking and a balanced diet.

Hunger poses a threat to the lives
of more than 733 million people around the world. But through dedicated
effort, sustainable food solutions, and commitment from supporters like
you, we’re able to produce more food.

[ [link removed] ]On World Food Day, will you make a symbolic pledge to combat hunger
and increase access to food for families worldwide?
