Hi there, it’s VA State Senator Ghazala Hashmi, the Democratic candidate running for Lt. Governor of Virginia in 2025. 

Protecting our planet is one of the most urgent issues of our time. It cannot wait. 

That’s why I’m a fierce champion for environmental priorities in Richmond;  here are a few: 

• I championed the Environmental Justice Act, defining environmental justice and making it the policy of the Commonwealth
• I co-patroned the Virginia Clean Economy Act, legislation that will position VA to meet an affordable and reliable zero-carbon electricity grid by 2050
• I redirected state funds to low-income property owners to repair aging septic systems to protect us all from public health disasters
• I required the State Corporation Commission to establish energy efficiency savings targets for Dominion customers who are low-income, elderly, disabled, or veterans

None of this would’ve been possible if Republicans controlled the State Senate here in Virginia, which is why I’m so proud to have won my seat in 2019.

Now, I know we can do more – so I’m running for Lieutenant Governor.

I know how to win here in Virginia, and I know how to get to work on day one to continue passing policies to protect our planet and improve Virginians’ lives.
