Dear Friends,
I’m excited to share with you some of the incredible work happening across California to uplift our communities, strengthen our economy, and create opportunities for all. From supporting our state’s vital agricultural sector to ensuring affordable housing for families in need, and from celebrating the richness of Mexican heritage to advancing women in finance, there is so much progress to be proud of.
Here are some of the things I’ve been up to on my campaign trail!
Supporting California’s Agriculture: The SF Market’s Essential Role
In a recent visit to the SF Market, I was reminded of the critical work being done to connect our state’s farmers to communities across the region. As a vital non-profit food hub, the SF Market moves hundreds of thousands of pounds of produce daily, serving as a bridge between California’s rural farming communities and urban centers. This market is more than just a distribution center—it’s a cornerstone of our agricultural economy. By supporting local farmers, the SF Market plays a pivotal role in maintaining California's status as the leading agricultural state in the nation. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, providing millions of jobs and essential food resources not just to Californians, but to the entire country. Together, we can continue to strengthen these efforts, ensuring a thriving future for California’s farmers and families alike.

Providing Housing to Californians in Need
I had the opportunity to meet with the leadership team of Yuba Sutter Habitat for Humanity, the organization behind the development of Merriment Village, a transformative project that will bring 218 affordable housing units to our community. This project will provide safe, stable homes to hundreds of individuals, ensuring that more families have the opportunity to thrive. Housing security is a critical part of building a healthy and vibrant community, and these efforts play a vital role in improving the quality of life for all Californians. Affordable housing is more than just a place to live—it’s the foundation for better health, education, and economic opportunities. As we move forward, I am proud to support initiatives like Merriment Village and Yuba Sutter Habitat for Humanity’s mission to make housing accessible to all.

Celebrating Mexican Heritage’s Profound Impact in California
I had the honor of attending the East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade & Festival, the oldest and largest Latin parade in the country! The parade was a magnificent display of the richness and vibrancy of Mexican heritage that has long been an integral part of California’s cultural fabric. As I joined the celebration, I was able to meet so many members of the community and hear their stories. Listening to the stories of Californians from all walks of life helps guide my work as Treasurer, ensuring that the policies we create are reflective of the needs and experiences of our diverse communities. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of this celebration, and I look forward to continuing to serve all Californians with the same spirit of inclusion and respect.

Working Together and Utilizing Resources to Develop our Communities
A heartfelt thank you to the California African American Chamber of Commerce for hosting the Affordable Housing & Economic Development Seminar 2024. This forum provided an invaluable opportunity to discuss how we can best work together to address California’s critical housing needs and explore ways to leverage federal, state, and local resources. The California African American Chamber of Commerce plays a pivotal role in advancing economic growth, advocating for policies that support Black-owned businesses, and strengthening local economies. Their work in fostering entrepreneurship, creating opportunities, and addressing economic disparities is crucial to building a more equitable and prosperous future for California. I look forward to continuing these important conversations and working closely with the Chamber to make meaningful change.

Empowering Women in the Workforce
I was thrilled to join the Women in Public Finance, where I participated in a wonderful fireside chat moderated by Kym Arnone, Managing Director and Head of Municipal Finance at Jefferies. I’m so appreciative of being recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event. It was an inspiring experience to be part of such a powerful conversation about women’s leadership and success in the finance industry. Women in Public Finance is doing incredible work to advance the careers of women in finance and provide them with the tools and support they need to thrive. By fostering networks, offering mentorship, and advocating for gender equity in finance, they are making significant strides in a historically male-dominated industry. As we continue to break barriers in finance, it’s essential to expand these opportunities for women across all industries. Ensuring that women have the support, resources, and representation they deserve is key to building a more inclusive and equitable workforce.

A Final Note from Fiona Ma
I’m so proud of the progress we’re making across California, but our work is far from over. My campaign is going strong, and I’m deeply grateful for the support I’ve received from so many of you. However, I still need your help to continue building a stronger, more inclusive future for all Californians.
If you’re interested in getting involved, I’d love to connect with more communities across the state. Please consider inviting me to your events or scheduling a meet and greet—I’d be honored to hear your thoughts and ideas as we move forward together.
