Governor Ron DeSantis is trying to erase women’s stories, starting with those who have been forced to make agonizing decisions to save their lives.
DeSantis is going after TV stations like WFLA-TV in Florida, threatening them with criminal prosecution if they continue airing an ad that shares the story of Caroline, a woman diagnosed with brain cancer during her pregnancy.
But the FCC isn’t having it, they’ve called these threats exactly what they are: blatant censorship.
Here’s the deal: WFLA-TV continues to air the ad, standing strong against DeSantis’ authoritarian tactics. But if they’re forced to back down, it won’t stop there.
Watch the video DeSantis doesn’t want you to see. Then, sign your letter to WFLA-TV’s station manager, Mark Higgins, and thank them for standing up for reproductive rights and the truth.
Florida’s abortion ban at six weeks is one of the most extreme in the country, most women don’t even know they’re pregnant at that point. This law puts countless lives at risk, forcing women to carry pregnancies that could kill them. Yet DeSantis is determined to bury this reality, punishing TV stations for exposing the harm these laws cause.
But we won’t let him succeed. We must defend not only the right to access abortion care but also the right to hear the stories of women like Caroline who needed that care to survive. We can’t afford to let DeSantis’ censorship win, because if he silences this ad, other stations will follow, and the conversation around women’s health and reproductive rights will disappear from our screens.
Republicans want a world where the government controls women’s bodies and punishes those who speak up.
But WFLA-TV’s bravery in refusing to pull this ad reminds us that not everyone is willing to bow to their bullying tactics. We have to make sure they know they have our support.
We need to protect our right to free speech and the right to share stories like Caroline’s. Add your name now and stand with WFLA-TV for having the courage to air the truth, despite DeSantis’ threats.
Together, we can protect and restore reproductive rights.
