Hi John.
I’ve made lowering costs for Kansans a top priority. I’ve heard from many families who are struggling with higher prices on groceries in particular, and I understand that people need relief.
That’s why I’m working with both parties to help Kansas farmers and ranchers secure our agricultural supply chains. Helping our producers grow and deliver their food more cheaply means lower prices at the grocery.
In fact, I’m pleased to share that I just introduced a new bill to do just that – the Resilient Food Supply Chain and Affordability Act.
Please click here to learn about my new bill to lower grocery prices and strengthen our local and regional food systems.
My new bill represents a vital step toward building a more resilient food supply chain. I was glad to recently discuss my new legislation at the KC Farm School and with other agricultural professionals.
Specifically, my new bill would make the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) Program permanent. Operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this initiative is focused on enhancing resilience within our food supply chain and helps lower prices.
For example, the KC Farm School received RFSI support to buy a new van so they could more easily reach 70 growers across the Kansas City region. Likewise, RFSI also helped Cultivate KC install cold storage units on farms that are operated by three new farm business school graduates. This all helps make our local agricultural economy more efficient.
Making the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure program permanent, and free from partisan gridlock and politics, is the right thing to do to support our farmers and lower prices.
This is about supporting local famers, creating jobs, and lowering costs for families at the grocery store. That’s why my bill has earned the support of the Kansas Farmers Union.
But there’s no question that we have more work to do. That’s why I’m also focused on ensuring more fair competition to help get prices down. I’m also fighting price gouging so big corporations can’t take advantage of consumers.
As this work continues, please know you can always visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to find resources to make your life more affordable. That includes resources for groceries, gas, housing, health care, and more.
It’s an honor to serve you and your family in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions or would like to share your views, please feel free to contact me.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
