Dear friend,
Last Friday for May Day, our fearless member leader Brinda Rai shared her story during a virtual storytelling workshop hosted by her Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. She bravely shared her experience as a domestic worker during this ongoing crisis, the need for a permanent solution for all Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and for protective measures for immigrants in the upcoming CARES Act.
Brinda is a long-time member of Adhikaar. She has been engaged and active with us since the New York Domestic Workers Bill of Rights campaign in 2007. Through storytelling, peer to peer support, and other organizing efforts, Brinda has inspired many other Nepali-speaking domestic workers and TPS holders to engage in various advocacy efforts.
We ask you to donate to Adhikaar because even empowered members like Brinda are not exempt from the challenges resulting from this pandemic. Through our COVID-19 response, we are assisting our members and the broader Nepali-speaking community, like Brinda, the supplies and support they need to weather out this storm. We are responding to the immediate needs of thousands of Nepali-speaking immigrants in NY. But we know that this crisis is far from over.
Our advocacy and organizing work focuses on making sure that not only are we making sure our community is protected and supported, but that they are empowered and organizing for the long haul. Together, we vision, build, and strategize for systemic change and long-term solutions for communities like ours.
And we welcome you to join us too. Donate to Adhikaar and support our members like Brinda as we respond to yet another crisis that severely impacts immigrant communities of color, while we build community power.
Thank you for your support.
In solidarity,
Pabitra Khati Benjamin
