Friends and fellow patriots,
Big announcement! We have changed our name!
We are no longer NE Tarrant Tea Party. We are now True Texas Project!
WHY???
I'll tell you.
- We are most definitely NOT just NE Tarrant County anymore. Folks come from all over the metroplex to attend our events, we're quoted in every news article on politics statewide, and our Citizen Advocates program includes activists from all over Texas. NE Tarrant? Way too limiting.
- We are not solely focused on fiscal issues. What does TEA stand for? Taxed Enough Already. We absolutely believe in fiscal sanity, but our group covers a lot more than just that topic. We want our name to reflect that.
- We also recognize the damage the media has done to the tea party name. The tea party can easily get 25-30% of the vote, but beyond that, the media has scared folks into thinking we are too far right. If they'd just listen to what we have to say, they almost always agree with us. We're hoping that dropping those scary words will help others embrace what we have to offer.
- At last year's Board meeting, we voted unanimously not to change our name. However, in the spring I started reconsidering it. Then I got 2 calls from 2 different advisors (separately) suggesting to me it is time to change the name. With everyone in agreement, I approached the Board. We immediately had an advisory panel start researching names.
- The panel all wanted the same vibe: something that spoke to the true roots of Texas, the rich history of our great state, and the legacy of the values and beliefs held by those who came before us. The only name of dozens we considered that we all agreed on was "True Texas."
- But True Texas what? Movement? Alliance? Project? Guess why we chose "Project." Because look at the initials! TTP. Just drop the NE from NETTP and there you go! How clever is that? :-)
- Cory Huddleston at Lure Studios presented several logo ideas to us, but the one we chose was hands down the favorite. Do you like it???
Please read the press release below regarding this change.
If you missed the party celebrating 10 years with us and revealing our big news and even bigger vision, you really missed a lot! We had a blast, and folks all across the state are talking about it! We enjoyed:
- A fantastic dinner catered by Oliva. Thank you, Fran Rhodes, Mike McCoy and Charlie Levitt, for all you did to make the dinner a success! And that cake! Take a look at this folks...can you see yourself in that photograph in the middle? ;-)
- Door prizes donated by Judge Jesse Navarez... really good ones... gift cards to great restaurants.
- A toast to 10 MORE years working side by side to save Texas. Check out this crowd raising their glasses... nearly 300 of us!
- A keynote speech by someone with a very unique perspective on the tea party... someone who has been in the tea party since she was 2 and has grown up with us... check out the video we introduced her with and see if you recognize her...
- Yes, that's my daughter, Lizzy McCarty. But she's all grown up now. Please watch the keynote address she gave and be encouraged and inspired!
- After the speech, the Board was recognized. This includes Bob Smith (Treasurer), Donna Smith (Secretary), Fran Rhodes (Vice President), Charlie Levitt, Fred McCarty (PAC President), Allan Solmon (banker, not pictured), and Lizzy McCarty (honorary Board member).
- It was a special treat to have a message from Senator Ted Cruz! Thank you for sneaking and getting that, Chris Dillard! And Papa Cruz (Rafael, his dad) even surprised us and showed up! Ted wanted to be with us but is currently in Europe. Here's the message Ted sent...
- After the Board was introduced, we put on a little swanky music and removed our tops! Too bad there's no video of that, huh? LOL But look what we had underneath!
- Our new name was revealed, along with an explanation why and a list of new ideas we hope to implement. (You can read some of them in the press release provided above).
- Jonathan Stickland then gave the "money pitch." Our new ideas mean we need to step up our giving! Our goal is to raise $3500 in monthly donations. We're asking everyone with any interest in True Texas Project to set up a monthly credit card gift. It could be $5 or $500 or anywhere in between. The good news is that in one night we reached just over half our goal! We are still looking for donors so please chip in! Our fundraising page will be up in a day or two, but for now, just email [email protected] and she'll get you set up.
- Check out our new tshirts! For everyone that signs up to donate at least $15/month to True Texas Project, we will give them one of these beauties for FREE!
- We changed up our Board a little bit too. I am no longer President... Fran Rhodes is! I am now CEO. We also named Charlie Levitt as VP, and Allan Solmon as Asst Treasurer. Bob stays the Treasurer, Donna stays the Secretery, and Fred stays the President of our PAC.
Whew! That''s a lot of news! I hope you read it all carefully because this movement is all about YOU! Jump in and help.
I look forward to 10 more years alongside you!
Thanks,
Julie McCarty, CEO
