Here’s something to give us hope for the future:

Recent polling shows that Biden is now ahead of Trump in key national battlegrounds.

The polls are promising, but we cannot take our foot off the gas. In addition to electing a president in November, we will elect state legislators who will not only be leading the COVID-19 response, but who will simultaneously be responsible for redrawing federal and state electoral maps that will decide elections for the next decade.

Building off the progress of our investments in the past cycles, we have a roadmap to win back power in these state houses to unwind the GOP’s gerrymandering and voter suppression in these national battlegrounds.

Our work to retake state legislative chambers isn’t about reaching the 270 electoral college votes we need to win back the White House this election. It’s about breaking GOP trifectas of power in key national battlegrounds that are stifling our democracy to ensure we have a fair shot to get to 270 electoral college votes for the next generation.

It’s all going to come down to a small handful of state legislative races that can tip the scales and shift majorities in key chambers in November. We’re doing everything we can—even today with social distancing—to take on tough GOP turf and expand the map for Democrats to win these races.

The future of our democracy, our health care, and our environment depend on what happens up and down the ballot in November. Together, we can reclaim and restore our democracy.
