"A prompt investigation is required prior to November 5 "

The Honorable Aaron M. Frey, Maine Attorney General
6 State House Station
Augusta, Maine 04333-0006

The Honorable Shenna Bellows, Maine Secretary of State
148 State House Station
Augusta, Maine 04333-0148

Dear Attorney General Frey & Secretary Bellows,

On behalf of the Maine House Republican Caucus, I am contacting you regarding the recently reported allegation from the "Maine Wire, "a digital media outlet, “"that multiple votes have been cast in Maine under the names of legal and illegal aliens who should be ineligible to vote in U.S. federal, state, and local Maine elections".” These allegations purportedly resulted from records acquired through a whistleblower connected to the State of Maine’s Medicaid (MaineCare) billing system.

Allegedly, “"when the identities of the 18 legal and illegal aliens named in the (MaineCare) records were cross-referenced with voting records from the Secretary of State, six of the individuals were registered to vote, five had voted in elections since 2016, and all were registered Democrats".”  The most concerning aspect, resulting from this allegation, is that the records reported on by the "Maine Wire" represents only a small slice of Maine’s legal and illegal population.

To restore the faith and trust of the Maine people in the sanctity of our ballot box and the integrity of our electoral process, our Caucus implores you both to use all available resources at the disposal of the Attorney Generals’ Office and Secretary of States’ to investigate and respond to these allegations as soon as possible.  A full and capacious investigation prior to November’s general election is required. Accordingly, individuals engaging in electoral misconduct should face the full consequences of the law.

On behalf of the people of Maine, we call on you, as Maine Constitutional Officers, to conduct an immediate investigation, provide transparency, and inform the public if these allegations are factual.

We look forward to your responses.

Respectfully,

*Representative Billy Bob Faulkingham*
*House Republican Leader*
