Friends, I want to tell you the story about someone very dear to
me: my grandmother, Sarah Daisy.

She was a single mom, who worked as a housekeeper to provide a one-bedroom
apartment for my Dad and his two siblings. She had a dream of one day
working for the federal government, but at the time you had to pass a
typing test.

She didn’t know how to type, and she couldn’t afford a typewriter. It
would have been easy to have given up on her dream, but she was determined
to get a good job and provide a better life for her kids.

So after working all day, she would get out a piece of paper and draw a
typewriter to hang on the refrigerator, and taught herself the keystrokes.
She eventually passed the test, and got the job.

Women like my grandmother cracked open the door of opportunity so that
future generations of women, like me, could kick it down.

It’s not lost on me that Maryland has never had a Black senator, and only
3 Black women have ever served in the United States Senate. But hard work
runs through my blood, and just like my grandmother, I am working every
day to win this race and ensure a better future for the next generation.

But I can’t do this alone — this race is bigger than just me because the
Senate majority is on the line, and with it, the power to chart a brighter
future for Maryland, and a better future for our country. [ [link removed] ]That’s why
I’m personally asking: Will you donate $25 or more to help me make
history, win this race, and defend the Senate majority?

If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your
donation will go through immediately.

I am my grandmother’s legacy, and I wish she were here today to see the
grassroots movement we’re building.
