Dear friends,
We have a very important opportunity coming up for you as part of our Clemency Now! Leading With Justice and Mercy campaign. On October 17, we will be hosting a FAMMily call with the U.S. Pardon Attorney, Elizabeth Oyer. Register here: [link removed] [[link removed]]
The Office of the Pardon Attorney receives and reviews clemency applications. The Office also makes recommendations to assist President Biden in the process of granting commutations to people incarcerated in federal prison and pardons to formerly incarcerated people.
This call will be a unique opportunity to learn about how clemency works from someone at the heart of the clemency process. Ms. Oyer was appointed to serve as Pardon Attorney in April 2022, after a long career as a federal public defender. She brings to her work a deep understanding of the vital role that clemency plays in creating opportunities for second chances.
Register today for “Talking Clemency With the U.S. Pardon Attorney,” which will take place on Zoom on Thursday, October 17, from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. You must register to attend: [link removed] [[link removed]]
Ms. Oyer will be talking to us about how clemency works and how to apply for a commutation or pardon. Although Ms. Oyer won’t be able to take questions abou t specific people or cases on our call, she’s eager to answer any questions about the process and help us all learn how clemency decisions are made.
Important note: Ms. Oyer will be discussing federal clemency, not state. Although the call is open to all who register, the federal process is different from each state’s clemency process, and Ms. Oyer will only cover the process of seeking clemency from President Biden.
