Plenary Spotlight: Re-building Public Health Infrastructure in Gaza
Tuesday, Oct. 22 | 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM | The Henry Hotel Presidential Ballroom
This session explores the severe impacts of war on public health, focusing on the ongoing war in Gaza. The ongoing war has obliterated much of the region's community and public health infrastructure, leading to devastating outcomes for the civilian populace. Since October 2023, the ongoing crisis has led to over 40,000 fatalities, mainly women and children, and nearly two million have been displaced. The resulting public health challenges are profound, with increased risks of malnutrition and outbreaks of infectious diseases due to compromised sanitation and healthcare services.
The panel will delve into both the direct and indirect repercussions of war on public health, emphasizing the urgent need for strategies to rebuild vital health infrastructure. The discussion will be enriched by firsthand accounts from medical professionals and health workers who are actively engaged in treating patients in these extreme conditions. These insights will underline the critical nature of the crisis and the essential actions required to address the health needs of affected populations.
