Dear John,

Today, May 8, 2020, would have been Ahmaud Arbery's 26th birthday, but his life was tragically cut short.

On February 23, 2020, while he was out for a jog near his home in Brunswick, Georgia, two white supremacists saw him, grabbed their guns, followed him in their truck, and then shot him to death on the street. The attackers have a close relationship with local law enforcement, which likely explains why -- until late yesterday -- they had not been arrested or charged.

Let's be clear, it wasn't until a sweeping public-shaming campaign began that Georgia officials arrested and charged the suspects. And we can't let up now.

We intend not only to show support for Ahmaud and his family, but also to raise public awareness, so that officials in Georgia secure justice in this heinous crime. Here's how you can help:

  1. Update your Facebook profile picture frame.

  2. Run, walk, or roll for Ahmaud's birthday this weekend. We hope that WAVE supporters will collectively run 223 miles. Please email me at [email protected] to let us know if -- and how far -- you ran for Ahmaud, and please send us a picture of yourself or of your running shoes for us to share on social media. You can also post your pictures on your own social media accounts, using the hashtag, #IRunWithMaud.

We demand justice, and we will work tirelessly to disarm hate.

Heartbroken and determined,
Jacey

P.S. Several organizations have petitions that you can sign to help achieve justice:

(Note: The Action PAC is asking individuals to sign up to run, and other groups are asking individuals to run 2.23 miles each.)
