Dear Friend,
This election is in its final three weeks, and the disparity between myself and my extremist Republican opponent Christopher Lauzon has never been greater.
While we remain dedicated to tackling the pressing issues facing Cape Codders and Islanders, my opponent is resorting to the tired tactics we've seen all too often in national politics.
Regrettably, he’s taken page after page from the Trump Playbook—it’s practically plagiarism:
You don’t need to take it from me. Listen to what he’s written and said during this campaign:
“Our State Senator always puts his personal point of view ahead of what is needed on the Cape and Islands” — a classic dog whistle that implies LGBTQ+ candidates put our ‘lifestyle’ and the queer agenda above all else.
“[Senator Cyr] has pushed an extreme, progressive agenda that has proven to be a disaster for residents of our district and outright harmful to our way of life” — really?
Lauzon claims I have an “anti-resident agenda” and that I “filed legislation to officially make Massachusetts a sanctuary state” – a patent lie.
“[Senator Cyr] has prioritized the needs of illegal immigrants at the expense of legal residents and citizens of the Cape & Islands.” — another lie, and blaming ‘illegal immigrants’ for all our problems is a tactic to sow dysfunction and division.
My opponent says he wants to “…educate voters on how many criminal migrants are in our state due to Julian Cyr” — huh?
“[Julian] has done nothing but push an ultra-progressive record” and “…far-left special interests led by Julian Cyr stands [sic] in our way,” — meanwhile Lauzon touts policies that include “Reject renewable energy programs,” “Oppose all attempt [sic] to establish a carbon tax,” and “No real estate transfer taxes.”
This isn’t how we operate on the Cape and Islands. Our campaign has always been focused on solving the big challenges our region faces — housing, wastewater, the climate crisis, addiction, health equity and access. We don’t shift blame onto vulnerable people. And we don’t perpetuate hate and lies.
My opponent wants you to believe that I am funded by special interests rather than, to paraphrase public broadcasting, supporters like you. Your support is critical once again. Can you help drown out and reject this extremist rhetoric in our backyard?
Give today to make sure we have the resources to push back.
