Team,

A week ago I was asked to serve on the Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis. The mission of this specially-created committee is to oversee the health response to this nationwide pandemic as well as the largest economic relief effort in the history of the nation. Only 12 members of Congress will serve on this committee. I am the only one from New Jersey, and I am the only Freshman or Sophomore member. I am humbled to serve.

What I promise you is that I will give this mission everything I got. There is so much at stake. Lives are being lost, businesses are on the brink, the future of our nation is as perilous as I’ve ever seen it. We must come together as a nation and take the necessary actions to test, responsibly reopen, and prepare for a second wave. We only get one chance to do this right.

So far our nation, the richest most powerful nation in the world, has not battled this virus with our full strength and capability. We fall well short of the number of tests we must do. We are not following the playbook of our talented experts and professionals. I will work hard to get us on the right track. I truly believe we can do this. This moment calls on us to put aside partisanship and to build and execute a national strategy rooted in science, medicine, economics, and service. That is what I intend to do.
