The Seattle IAM Hall is hosting a rally this coming Tuesday at noon, and SDSA members are planning a night shift picket support action from midnight to 4am on Saturday, October 19!
SDSA’s Labor Working Group Hosting Midnight Picket Support Event and End-of-Year Retreat
In case you haven’t heard, the Boeing machinists are still on strike and SDSA members are still standing with them over a month into it. The last couple weeks have seen the employer cancel striking machinists’ health insurance, file a complaint with the NLRB, and announce a 10% company-wide layoff along with delaying the 777X and halting production on the 767 (both locally produced). These actions constitute a draconian attack on the workers and their bid for a strong contract. The bosses believe they can win this fight, so workers need to rally behind the IAM 751 machinists now more than ever!
IAM 751 is hosting a rally tomorrow at the Seattle hall and the community is encouraged to come show their support. SDSA’s Labor Working Group will also be hosting a midnight picket support action this Saturday to help bolster the Seattle lines in the early morning hours (RSVP on Action Network). We strongly encourage members to show their support by attending one of the events this week or finding time to help at the pickets whenever they can. An injury to one is an injury to all!
With all the actions going on, we need to occasionally pause, reflect, and evaluate our efforts as organizers. Better yet, make it a social event! SDSA’s Labor Working Group is hosting an end-of-year retreat this Sunday from 2:30pm-6:30pm to give us a chance to recap the year and strategize ahead for the next one (RSVP on Action Network). LWG has put together a suggested reading list and some discussion questions for participants as well, though it is not a requirement to participate. Also let us know if you want to bring something for the potluck! Location will be announced to those who RSVP’d via email/text later this week.
