SBE TO MEET IN JACKSON ON OCTOBER 18

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will meet in person at 9 a.m. on October 18 in Jackson.

The SBE will convene to consider action on their goals and priorities for public education and board priorities for 2024-25. The board will also consider action on revisions to board policies and will open Chapter 22 School Schedules for rule promulgation. 

The board will hear from Lander Valley High School student Ally Spiess, who has represented Wyoming as a member of the Million Girls Moonshot Flight Crew for 2024, about her work with the afterschool program in Lander. She will be joined by Ceatriss Wall, Principal of Pathfinder High School, and Michelle Sullivan, Director of the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance.

The state board will receive an update on year two of the RIDE Student Centered Learning Pilots. 20 school districts serving approximately half of all students in Wyoming are involved with RIDE. 

Discussion items include the implementation of educational standards and feedback from educators on the initial draft of revisions to Chapter 31 Graduation Requirements. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) will provide the board with a review of World Language standards and Math and Science extended standards. The WDE will also present a timeline for the English Language Proficiency Assessment request for proposals.

All SBE meetings are open to the public. The meeting will be held at the Teton County School District #1 Central Office, located at 1235 Gregory Lane in Jackson.
