Texas Music Incubator Rebate Program Application Window Closes November 30 [ [link removed] ]

 

Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Music Office (TMO) [ [link removed] ] announced on September 4, 2024 the opening of applications for the second year of the *Texas Music Incubator Rebate (TMIR) Program [ [link removed] ]*. As first announced by Governor Abbott and the TMO in 2023 [ [link removed] ], the TMIR Program provides qualifying Texas music venues and festival promoters a full or partial rebate of mixed beverage gross receipts taxes or sales taxes of up to $100,000 to help support the live music industry in communities across the state.

With $20.2 million approved for the biennium in the 88th Legislative Session, applications for Fiscal Year 2024 funding are open through *November 30, 2024*, when the application window closes.

The Texas Music Office (TMO) administers the Music Education & Community Program grant [ [link removed] ], also known as the “License Plate Grant," which provides grants to benefit music-related educational and community programs sponsored by 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Texas.

100% of the funding for the TMO grants comes from the *sale of Texas Music specialty license plates [ [link removed] ]*, where $22 from the $30 fee for each custom plate goes directly into the TMO’s Music Educational and Community Program. 

The TMO is in need of funding for this grant program, and we encourage everyone to consider purchasing a custom Texas Music license plate for your car, tour bus, or motorcycle by clicking the link below!

In addition, the application window for Fiscal Year 2025 is open for the TMO's Music Education & Community Program grant [ [link removed] ] through "_August 31, 2025 at 5:00PM CST._"

Only 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Texas may apply. The eligibility criteria for the nonprofit, includes, but is not limited to, the following:


* Be a nonprofit organized and based in Texas;
* Be in good standing with the State of Texas; and
* Owe no delinquent taxes to a taxing unit of Texas.

TMO at Americana Music Association's 25th Anniversary for Conference Panels and Annual Lone Star Shindig 

 

TMO Staff traveled to Americanafest [ [link removed] ] in Nashville, for the highly-anticipated annual Lone Star Shindig, an official showcase of all Texas artists, including Robert Earl Keen, Uncle Lucius, Vandoliers, Rodell Duff, Wonder Women of Country (Brennen Leigh, Kelly Willis, Melissa Carper), J. Isaiah Evans & The Boss Tweed, Harper O'Neill, Christopher Seymore & The Western Cosplay, and Remy Reilly. A huge thank you to our Texas partners Kessler Presents [ [link removed] ], Longhorn Ballroom [ [link removed] ], and Prekindle Tickets [ [link removed] ] for an amazing year, lineup, and turnout. 

In addition, TMO's Marketing & Communications Specialist, Jenny Perkins,, created and curated two panels for Americanafest 2024, "Government Initiatives in Cities," [ [link removed] ] co-sponsored by TMO, including TMO Director Chip Adams as a panelist along with other notable state and city  music office representatives; and "Creating Legislation to Protect Music Creators from Misuse of Artificial Intelligence," [ [link removed] ] co-sponsored by the Recording Academy [ [link removed] ], featuring panelists and leaders in AI rights for creators.

TMO Staff Speak to Texas State Students, Attend Robert Earl Keen 30th Anniversary of Gringo Honeymoon, Attend First National Music Cooperative Meeting

 

TMO Program Specialists Jaclyn Zapata and Steve Ray spoke to Dr. Jason Mellard's [ [link removed] ] Music History class at Texas State University on Monday, September 30.

The Center for Texas Music History [ [link removed] ] is a unique program focusing on the preservation and study of Texas and Southwestern music history.  With an emphasis on how Texas music reflects the rich history and tremendous cultural diversity of the Southwest, the Center for Texas Music History offers graduate and undergraduate courses, along with a variety of research and publishing projects all aimed at helping Americans better understand our unique and diverse cultural heritage through music.

Steve Ray also attended a ceremony at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar in the City of Bandera to honor renowned Texas songwriter and entertainer Robert Earl Keen to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his 1994 album, Gringo Honeymoon [ [link removed] ], where he read a letter from the Governor of Texas:

In addition, during Americanafest [ [link removed] ] in Nashville, TMO Director Chip Adams, along with Jenny Perkins and Gini Mascorro, attended the first National Music Cooperative Meeting, formed of heads of fellow State and City Music Offices, to meet and share best practices and activities.
