Dear friend,
Today is Indigenous Peoples Day, a day when we come together as a nation to honor and celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous Americans.
For thousands of years, Indigenous communities have stewarded this land, built vibrant cultures, and shared their knowledge, traditions, and values with the world. Their contributions in art, language, science, and government have profoundly shaped our society, and today we recognize and celebrate the lasting impact they’ve had.
But today is also an opportunity to reflect on the injustices Indigenous communities have faced throughout history. From the displacement of native communities to the suppression of their cultural practices and the continued fight for land rights, healthcare access, environmental justice, and more – we owe it to Indigenous Americans to support their continued fight for equity and justice.
In Congress, I remain committed to supporting efforts that uplift Indigenous voices across the country. Today, I hope you’ll join me in reflecting on how we can all contribute to a more just and inclusive future for all Americans.
Thank you,
Lori Trahan
