John, I may be a sophomore in college today. But 12 years ago, I was a second grader at Sandy Hook Elementary, hiding among my classmates’ mittens and coats while a gunman killed 26 people.

The intercom was left on, so every sound was amplified. I tried to focus on my teacher’s voice instead, as she quietly read to us. That teacher was Abbey Clements, one of the co-founders of Teachers Unify Action.

I had to put a lot of trust in Ms. Clements that day, and I still have that trust in her now. But this time, it’s as my ally in the fight to end gun violence.

Ms. Clements and I have spoken at rallies together, pushed for better legislation, and now, I want to help her and Teachers Unify Action elect leaders who will work with us, not against us. Who will keep schools and communities safe – so no one else has to go through what we did. But we need your help, too, John.

Winning elections is hard, expensive work no matter who you are – but Teachers Unify Action is made up of teachers and school staff, not professional fundraisers with big connections. Can they count on you to donate right now to power their work electing leaders who will help end gun violence in schools? >> ([link removed])

John, this will be the first presidential election I can vote in, and I intend to make myself heard loud and clear.

Just like the teachers building this movement, I want to turn my anger and frustration into purpose. Into change.

But that takes serious resources – especially when so many people would rather look away from this crisis than face it head on. Trust me: I understand how much easier it would be to go numb in the wake of shooting after shooting. But we must not be numb. We must act.

Teachers Unify Action is taking action. They’re raising their voices and demanding to be heard as experts on this issue. They’re fighting for candidates who have been teachers themselves, like Gov. Tim Walz. They just need our help to do it.

Teachers Unify Action relies on grassroots donations to make homegrown change – so I have to ask you to stand with me in supporting them, and fund this fight while we still have time to win battleground elections. Will you rush $25 or whatever you can right now to help educators elect a safer future for all of us? >> ([link removed])
