Mother’s Day is this Sunday. For many families, it’s a day of warmth and celebration. But because of our racist, broken cash bail system, too many Black mothers are incarcerated and separated from their families.
National Bail Out is a grassroots coalition fighting to end broken systems of pretrial detention and, ultimately, our system of mass incarceration.
Right now, they’re coordinating the Mama’s Day Bail Out for Black mothers and caregivers, so these women can spend Mother’s Day with their families. And decarceration is more important now than ever — in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic — because those behind the wall are at disproportionate risk. That’s why I’ve been calling for immediate compassionate release, because COVID-19 should not be a death sentence for anyone.
If you can afford to, please join me in supporting National Bail Out to help liberate Black mothers so that they can spend this upcoming Mother’s Day with their families.
