The Texas Supreme Court was made up of exclusively male justices until 1992. One seat in particular has been around since 1918 and has NEVER been filled by a woman.

Meanwhile, the state’s majority-male lawmakers have been passing dangerous and shameful laws about women, women’s safety, and women’s bodies.

We are working to change that. That’s why we proudly announce our endorsement of Christine Weems for the Texas Supreme Court, Place 4.

In her previous role as Harris County Judge, Christine BLOCKED Texas officials from enforcing a decades-old abortion ban. Christine is running against a man named John Devine – an incumbent who has been in this seat since 2013 and is running for his third term.

Here is a look at his record:

❌ Devine does not believe in the separation of church and state. When he was a district court judge, he was actually sued for insisting on hanging the Ten Commandments in his courtroom.

❌ Devine has been arrested 37 times for protesting and harassing women outside of abortion clinics. Despite this, he refuses to recuse himself from cases that involve abortion.

❌ There are concerns about his ability to be fair and treat all parties equally.

Because of this, he was the only one of only three incumbent Republicans on the ballot in Texas this year who had a primary challenger. He only beat that opponent by less than 1 percent.

All of that ^ tells us that Christine Weems could actually win this seat.

Since taking the bench, she has presided over 80 jury trials in the face of courtroom shortages due to Hurricane Harvey damage to the criminal courthouse as well as COVID-19. She is a majorly qualified trial judge who Texans can trust to be fair and balanced.

Texas is a red state. However, its Supreme Court has been increasingly controversial as of recent years. It’s critical that we work to chip away at their anti-choice, anti-woman majorities who are passing dangerous laws that put women’s lives at risk.
