Update: Some relief from penalties for delinquent property taxes

On May 6, following repeated requests by HJTA, Gov. Newsom issued Executive Order N-61-20, which directed county tax collectors to waive late penalties and interest charges for taxpayers who were unable to pay the second installment of annual property taxes due on April 10 due to economic hardship resulting from the COVID-19 emergency.

Relief from penalties is available to the owners of residential property occupied by the taxpayer and small businesses operating on property owned by the business owner.

For more information on how to apply for relief from penalties, and to find out if your county offers the option of installment payments, please contact your county Treasurer-Tax Collector. You can find their names and contact information on our website at:

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association is continuing to work on behalf of California taxpayers throughout the coronavirus emergency. We greatly appreciate you, and we hope you are well. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jon Coupal
