Dear John,
COVID-19 has shined a spotlight on egregious injustices in our food system—reaffirming that the system is broken and change is necessary. Specifically, it reminds us of the need to slow line speeds in slaughterhouses, a move that would protect fully conscious animals from cruel slaughter and allow workers to social distance, slowing the spread of the illness and protecting public health. Now is the time to contact your members of Congress and urge them to halt higher-speed slaughter. |
|
Lightning-fast line speeds increase the risk of human error that results in the slaughter of countless animals who are fully conscious and terrified. They also force workers to stand close together, making slaughterhouses hotspots for the spread of COVID-19 and endangering surrounding communities. Mercy For Animals, along with 21 other organizations that protect workers, consumers, and animals, is asking Congress to prohibit higher-speed slaughter of birds, pigs, and cows.
Your elected officials work for you, and farmed animals need your voice now more than ever. Contact your members of Congress now and urge them to protect animals, workers, and public health by prohibiting higher-speed slaughter.
Thank you for speaking up.
Sincerely, |
