John,
“Nothing to see here.” This was essentially the outcome of the FBI’s investigation into the sexual assault allegations brought against Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings as a Supreme Court Justice.
But new evidence indicates there was direct interference from then-President Trump that prevented a full investigation.
According to a new report sponsored by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, the FBI received more than 4,500 complaints concerning Kavanaugh, but the FBI simply forwarded them to Trump without any further investigation.
How many key witnesses were never interviewed? How many leads were dropped? It’s time we had a full recounting. Who knows what we might have discovered had they been pursued?
Tell the FBI: No one is above the law, including Supreme Court justices. Reopen the Kavanaugh sexual assault investigation now.
In Trump’s haste to get Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court, he quashed a full inquiry into Kavanaugh’s actions. But when a lifetime appointment is at issue, Americans deserve to have full transparency and accountability.
Notwithstanding the Court’s own notions of presidential immunity, no one in this country is above the law, especially not the justices who are responsible to determine the ultimate lawfulness of the most divisive and historical controversies we face as a nation.
We have no kings, and we have no infallible tribunals. If we don’t have justice for the highest court in the land, then we don’t have justice.
Demand a full investigation by the FBI, free of political influence, and without bias or preconceptions.
The American people deserve nothing less.
