I’m writing with a critical update about the state of my re-election campaign: 

In three days, we’ll submit our final fundraising report of this campaign to the Federal Election Commission. After that, our fundraising numbers will become publicly available for all to see — you, the media, GOP super PACs, and my opponent. 

Here’s the reality of these FEC reports: If we file a strong public fundraising report, we have the power to fend off national Republicans who are trying to flip VA red for my opponent and Donald Trump in November. 

If we file a weak report, we’ll invite additional investment from national GOP organizations. Typically what these investments do — especially in the final weeks of an election — is flood the zone with false attack ads about me, Kamala Harris, and Democrats down the ballot. 

In consultation with my campaign staff, I’ve decided to launch a 3-day $100,000 fundraising goal to make sure our final FEC report is as strong as it can possibly be and set us up for success in these final few weeks.
